Theme Music
By Bricu | March 21, 2009
Soundtracks are not just for television and movies. RPers, even table toppers, use soundtracks to emphasis the action (or drama) of their games. For their part, Blizzard has gone to great lenghts to create a soundtrack for our characters. Each zone has music that is perfectly fitted to it. Our characters need to look elsewhere for their own personal themes.
Thus far, the best song for my main is Dirty Old Town, as performed by the Pogues (warning Scarybad teeth in the video):
Love, violence and a dig at the city. Of course, the perfect song would be instrumental. Thus far, the perfect song alludes me.
That explanation aside, what’s your main’s theme? Not your PVP/Raiding play-list, but the song that captures the essence of your RP experience in a nut shell? Do you prefer lyrical or instrumental, modern or folk?

Davien: “Fake Wings” by Yuki Kajiura (from the .hack//SIGN soundtrack)
It’s hard to pick just one for Threnn. But, her original one’s still appropriate: Great Big Sea, “Consequence Free.”
Annalea has the instrumental one: B.T. by Yuki Kajiura, also from ./hack). Recently tying with The Wallflowers’ “God Says Nothing Back.” (Ignore the Buffy fan vid there, it was that or a Dexter one.)

I have a bitch of a time picking a single theme for Tarq, but right now “Rake at the Gates of Hell” feels pretty appropriate. Needs more Pogues, after all.
Jak’s has been Bruce Dickinson’s “Jeusalem” for a while now. It still works.

I personally prefer instrumental/choir, but sometimes you can’t help but find a lyrical gem. To make it easy, though, here’s the instrumental tracks for all of them.
Yva. Always on the play list when I write her stuff.
Skyborne.
Indarra.
Boleyn.
Seylon.

I did a post like this a couple of weeks back and was slightly perplexed that so few people, particularly RPers, seemed to associate real life songs with their toons. I’m glad I’m not alone!
My Undead Rogue on Cenarion Circle has, unimaginatively enough, Undead by Hollywood Undead as his theme song. (Warning, lyrics NSFW).
My Human Warlock on Feathermoon has Just Us Kids by James McMurtry Just Us Kids by James McMurtry.
