Open Thread: Characters
Back in the day, when I interned at a publishing house, I learned to fake interest in listening to people’s characters. I dont’ have the same problem with World of Warcraft. This has to do, primarily, with the fact that most WoW players I’ve met want to talk stats, strageties and theorcraft.
WTT:RP isn’t really about the “crunchy bits” of WoW. This particular blog is about RP, character development and integrating RP into your style of play. So indulge us. Tell us about your characters.

I have a very organic (if you’re feeling charitable)/haphazard (if you’re not) approach to my characters…namely coming up with one or two defining characteristics, maybe an appearance, and then messing with the random name generator until something comes along that fits them. Rashona started out with “no-angst zone” and “totally, quietly devoted to the Earthmother”; everything else developed with play and role-play. She’s got a combination of philosophical/academic smarts and total, appalling social cluelessness that’s entirely too much fun to play.
The only exception is my belf warlock, who sprang fully-developed into my head and demanded to be played. With her, I knew everything except the name right off the bat. (She was badly injured when Arthas ganked Silvermoon and firmly believes she died in the battle and is now in some unpleasant afterlife. After all, she’s got demons following her around, every elf she sees is fel-tainted, and they’re hanging out with a bunch of zombies. Makes perfect sense.) I actually wish I got to RP her more, because being severely disconnected from reality doesn’t prevent her from having cast-titanium willpower, but she’s quiet about being crazy and this makes things difficult.
