Player Housing Open Thread

After a long day of dungeon crawling, fighting monsters and jousting, your character deserves a place to kick of her or his boots and relax in relative safety. While this could be accomplished in an Inn, Tavern or any decent sized village/town/city/Floating Castle, wouldn’t it be better for your character to relax in their own house?
Ultima Online had it. Fallout 3 has it. Lord Of the Rings Online has it. Simply put, housing should be a feature in WoW. Even if one ignores the enormity that PC housing would have on RP, PC Housing is a flat-out win for all players.
I think Blizzard should go beyond having Player Housing in the Capital cities and allow for phased or instanced housing in certain picturesque locations. Why should this feature be limited to certain locations on the map?
What are your thoughts on Player housing? What features would you like to see? What are the drawbacks and problems that could occur? Given the option, where would your character live?

OK, I’ll play Devil’s Advocate.
In a better world, with more role-play to begin with, player housing would be a great idea. But it would be dreadful for beginning role-players in Warcraft. An already sparse and underground RP scene would be driven even deeper. There would be fewer open-world scenes and more instanced, hidden away ones.
Guild halls, perhaps? Same problems. We need more inter-guild role-play, not less, but the guild hall would all but guarantee it.
And while we’re there, if it’s instanced, who’s to say you’ll ever get in? You can’t get into half the dungeons these days.
Finally, and this is the coffin nail for me, there’s nothing IN it for the raider. There’s nothing IN it for the PVPer. There’s no in-game benefit, and these guys LIVE for that.
Player housing is a dead end.
