A Midsummer’s Night RP Writing Contest and a Few Quick Notes

By | July 9, 2009

On Monday evening, the Midsummer Night’s RP Writing Contest ended with a few last minute entries that managed to sneak by in the last hour.  We had excellent submissions – and quite a good number of them. So now the hard part begins…

Judging.

Basic judging criteria will be along the lines of the following (of course, subject to change if we discover we have to have harsher criteria because all of your stories are just that good):

  • Follows the Prompt – your character interacting with or responding to a lore event or quest
  • Writing Mechanics – can we read and understand it? is there leetspeak or gamer slang?
  • Appropriate to the Lore – does the story involve a new character coming in as an NPC to alter the game event in some way? Is the character a half-dragon catgirl vampire with a gunarm and a prehensile tail?
  • And the ever subjective… Did we like it?

Judging will be completed July 31, 2009, with winners announced (and published!) the following week.  We will have at least THREE winners with prizes (though we’ve not divvied up the loot into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place yet, I can tell you there’s some pretty good swag in there, including a 60 day game card!), and there will be internet-fame and glory to be had.

So thank you – all of you – that participated.  Please be patient as we read and re-read your stories.

You might notice our wee corner of the blogosphere being quieter than usual for the next few days.  That’s because several of us are hanging up the Gone Fishin’ signs and attending Feathermeet this weeked.  Feathermeet is an annual gathering of players from (yup, you guessed it) Feathermoon, wherein we put RL faces to the in-game avatars over a weekend of grillin’, drinkin’, and other social-type activities.  We get out from behind the monitors and brave the light of the daystar.

Of course, you can’t have a gathering of WoWplayers without the conversations often turning to theorycrafting, tales of epic wipes (some of which are probably explained by Father Bregdark’s Raid Analysis Tool — have we mentioned he’s one of Feathermoon’s own?  <3 Breggy), and server nostalgia.

And, of course, there’ll be a few of us sitting in Beth’s late at night, fingers steepled as we plan horrible things to put our characters through in the coming months.

Ohyes, there will be RP plottingz.

So! Until next week, have fun, and get out there and RP!

GET ON WITH THE JUDGING

I cannot promise anything yet; however, if I am slick enough, i believe I can post a few WTTRP Pics and possibly videos.

The floor is now open for bribes to 1) Keep the pics and vids off the blog or 2) ensure that the pics and vids are prominently displayed.

I know where you live and I have family in that area. Don’t make me end you.
