It Came from the Keywords!
I thought I’d take a peek at recent keywords that led people to WTT:[RP] for some posting inspiration. Most of them are fairly mundane, including variations on wtt and rp and a few hits that I’m guessing were people searching for some quest help. A few that amused me:
the dwarf tears the scarecrow apart
Um, what? It just brought the searcher to the main page, so I’m guessing they found Bricu beating the hell out of Jolly’s scarecrow. Sadly, they found a human paladin, not a dwarf.
Then came:
jaina proudmoore marriage
Ahahahahaha. Here’s the answer to that burning question:
Arthas is too smitten with his horse. Jaina’s doomed to eternal spinsterhood, unless she drops the Whiny Prince and sets her sights on someone better.
Next was:
how to talk out of rp
Look! Advice I can offer!
I’m reading this search two ways. First is, “How do you indicate that you’re speaking out of character?” The easy answer is to put out of character brackets around your text ((like this)).
Now, a couple of guidelines about that. On an RP realm, /say is supposed to be in-character. RPers aren’t going to mind the occasional line of OOC text in /say — ((Sorry, I’m lagging a bit)) — but holding whole conversations, not so much. Quibbling over something like the relative ages or heights of Draenei and Night Elves, and citing from whence your information came is better fodder for the forums. If you’re looking to clarify something with another player that’s going to take more than a couple of lines, it probably belongs in whispers.
If you find yourself in a party or raid that’s full of RPers, it will probably be pretty clear whether or not the instance will be IC. Some groups will be OOC in /party and IC in /say. Others will do all their RPing in /party. If you need a fight explained, don’t be afraid to ask out of character (though, it can be done in character — our fearless leader Tarquin does an excellent job of giving IC instructions. It can’t hurt to try!)
Now, if the search was meant as “How do I talk someone out of RPing?” Ha! Trick question! The answer is you don’t, silly bunny! RP ought to be encouraged, not discouraged.
One last search term, then I’ll set you lot free:
world of warcraft warrior rp stories
Dear Panzercow,
The masses want more stories. How about it?
