Pre-Cata Open Thread!

Operation Gnomergon and Operation Echo Isles have been live for 24 hours, beginning the pre-Cataclysm events. How are the events affect your RP? Did you run the event with a gnome or a troll? Did you riff off of the Flyers passed around or was it organized by someone else? How would you rate the event?

Heh… amusingly, Operation Gnomeregan has struck at a time when both of my significant gnome characters really couldn’t care less about retaking the city. Jenive is off with Imble in Nagrand on an extended honeymoon, pretty much completely out of touch with anyone else; at this rate, it’ll be a wonder if she even hears about the Cataclysm when it happens. Meanwhile, Corise is simultaneously dealing with the break-up of her marriage and playing a dangerous role in an even more dangerous secret plot that could have earth-shattering ramifications – literally. And even if she didn’t already have such a burden on her shoulders, it’s hard to say whether she’d be willing to confront all the inner demons and horrific memories that Gnomeregan holds for her; I think she’d be just as happy to leave the city to the troggs, and let that pain stay buried. She certainly hasn’t reacted favorably to news about the operation.
I do have a third gnome on FM, but Kaywinny is a) only level 40, b) Stormwind-born, and c) a child, so her interest and involvement is also likely to be minimal. So it may fall to my dorfadin to participate in Operation Gnomeregan; it’s not a cause she feels particularly passionate about compared to, say, defeating the Burning Legion or taking down Arthas, but she’s a crusader for all that’s good and just, and the gnomes are friends in need of help. So I imagine she’ll see the flyers and go lend a hand, because… dangit, I want to see this event, even if my characters don’t seem to be all that keen on it.

Having done both events, I have to say the Echo Isles line was somewhat superior to the Gnomer one, if only because there was an ending. The bastard died. (Of course, it could be argued that everyone and their brother killed both Zalazane and Thermaplugg 5 years ago and repeatedly since on any alts they may have. But still.)
Gnomer left me wanting more. Maybe because several things within the quest line are/were bugged (and I’ve done that one 3 times completely now).
As for the RP side of things, Arrens will have fought for Gnomer. But I doubt I’ll be involved with much fic regarding the re-taking of Gnomer. That I’ve typed that word 4 times now gives me the heebie-jeebies. Because…well…they’re gnomes. Ick.

I am in the middle of writing Dorri and Keltyr after helping with the push at the Echo Isles.
Of course, they were probably more drawn for the chance at combat and some of what the trolls were smoking afterwards.
