Cataclysm is changing the game dramatically. We will have to learn new builds and rotations, and learn how we mesh with other roles. As WoW’s meta-plot advances, our RP is subjected to equally dramatic changes. And to be fair, all of these changes may be a bit overwhelming.
The best way to handle changes this big is one aspect at a time. The aspect to work on first? Enjoying the game. If you want to work on the crunchier aspects of WoW and hit up the target dummies until you’re pulling the proper DPS or practice healing with a ton of pugs? Do it. If you want to spend your nights getting the RP back in order before Deathwing ruins everything? Do it.
What do you need to get back into the swing with WoW? Is it something you can take control of, or is it something that needs to happen in game?

I like the changes for the most part. RP takes care of itself in game, as usual. Some class mechanics I’ve had to sit down and do some reading and playing around with in game (I’ve needed to relearn DK tanking before tomorrow night’s ICC run and I still get a feeling it could be a bit rocky… to my raid, you know you love me, right? XD). So yep, tanking I’ve had to take control of, RP I haven’t because it just happens, storylines evolve with in game events, and that’s a good balance in gameplay for me.
The changes so far- it does feel like a fresh game already in some respects. I haven’t touched Kyraine, but the retpally and DK play differently and so far it’s been fun. The earthquakes have started up some random RP in the cities, which is bloody fantastic. And leveling my baby shadow priest just started making a lot more sense with the talent tree changes- if I accidentally pull more than two mobs, it’s no longer an insta-kill for me. I’m thinking just going along for the ride will suit me just fine until December 7th. The game’s still fun, the RP is still happening, and that’s what’s important.

The thing that brought me back to WoW was the cinematic. My jaw dropped when I saw Deathwing blaze over Auberdine. That was one of the most awe-inspiring WoW-things I ever saw. I really wish they could do a whole movie like that. I think I would have to be carried out of the cinema and get that idiotic grin surgically removed…
My nelf-dk is getting a lot of rp at the moment. Her ‘outsider that tries to carve out a little niche for herself in nelf-society’ storyline has been accepted surprisingly well by the rp folks on my server.
