Unusual Pairings

Every time I write something–RP, an evaluation, fic or a paper–I notice a pairing that, until that particular bit of writing, did not make sense. While writing, I create associations between two topics that may, or may not, be related. When it comes to RP relationships, the same holds true: Some pairings, while not obvious at first, make for great stories.

For instance, we have Bricu and Illithias: Two orphans from devastating wars. Since coming to that understanding, the two have developed a close relationship. Prior to that understanding, the insults and threats of violence were fast and furious.

Another pairing that does not appear obvious comes from the WTTRP Feathermoon circle: Fells and Laurus Drachmas. Fells is a country bumpkin from Elwynn. Laurus is a disgraced minor noble from Dalaran. Their interactions, however, create RP wherever they go.

What unusual pairings have you discovered in your RP or you attempts at Nano? Do you have an example of how this may work? Fill us in!

Corise’s best friend is Mayanna, a human paladin. Their friendship started out as mutual animosity; Corise despised what she saw as May’s self-righteous, holier-than-thou attitude, while May found Corise to be both immoral and infuriating. They had some seriously epic arguments before finding common ground. Now they are incredibly close and view themselves as sisters, and I think they’ve each come to appreciate the other’s perspectives, even if they aren’t always in agreement. That being said, as strong as their friendship is, it can still be a bit rocky at times due to their differences, which makes for continuously interesting RP.

Another unexpected pairing has been Lakena, my Kaldorei hunter-turned-druid, and her husband, Kolten, a human mage. Given night elven attitudes towards arcane magic, it’s not a relationship I ever expected to happen at all, let alone to develop into a stable marriage. But they’ve been together for more than four years, and over that time, there’s been no shortage of opportunity to play out the ramifications of such an unconventional couple, including how others have reacted to their relationship (Lakena’s mentor did NOT approve), how they deal with lifespan differences, etc.
