On occasion, we encounter an character who is a bit of lurch. Someone like this guy:
A character who is either stupid or willfully obtuse. Dealing with a lurch is no different than dealing with any other difficult character. Some might scream at a lurch, some may ignore a lurch while others just love their lurch. Today’s filler open thread: who is your lurch and how do you rp with them?

When I first started RPing, it was actually myself. I admit it. I was stupid, and obtuse.
I had to quit my guild over it, not because they asked me to, but because I felt it would be better to do so than to continue on and make people so annoyed at me they wanted nothing to do with it.
How have I fixed myself? By reading the lore more. How do I rp with them? Very carefully.

I’m not going to name names, because that would be mean… and because I’m pretty sure that our lurch has no idea that he is one. He’s one of those people who seems to genuinely mean well, IC and OOC, and WANTS to be involved in things, but is just totally clueless about how his efforts come across to other people… poor social skills, perhaps?
Thing is, we’ve tried time and time again to encourage him to channel his commendable (over)eagerness to participate in guild RP in slightly less exasperating ways. And he seems to understand on some level that he gets on people’s nerves, and apologizes for rubbing people the wrong way… but he just doesn’t seem capable of realizing WHY we find him irritating.
He’s more or less harmless, most of the time, so I tend to either ignore him or blow off steam by letting my very snarky character poke a little fun at him IC; it goes right over the character’s head, and (I suspect) the player’s head, as well.

An IC lurch feels different than an OOC lurch. It makes me thing that one day, WTTRP should offer an intervention style service. Or, Light forbid, a Bricu Based intervention.
